Victim Impact Statement - John Kupresak - Iron Oak Construction
Written February 23, 2017
I still have trouble believing that John Kupresak from Iron Oak Construction stole $40,000 from me. It will take me 5 years to repay the $40,000 that I borrowed for the deposit he demanded on a $100,000 construction project that was to take 6 months to complete.
Thirteen months ago I hired John Kupresak from Iron Oak Construction to design and provide drawings for a new detached garage and renovation of the existing garage into living space. I paid him the $2,700 fee and over the course of a month the drawings were completed.
Twelve months ago, I hired John Kupresak from Iron Oak Construction to build the new detached garage and renovate the existing garage into living space as outlined in the drawings and provided a $40,000 deposit.
Ten months ago, the town identified deficits with the drawings that John Kupresak from Iron Oak Construction provided with the building permit application and he was unable to resolve them. I ended up getting the drawings redone, at my expense, and secured the necessary permits.
For the past ten months, I have tried everything possible to get construction started because the terms of my variance requires that construction be completed by next month. I have lost one day per week of employment during this time attempting, to move this project forward. The stress of trying to get John Kupresak from Iron Oak Construction to begin construction has taken a significant toll on my health.
The construction delay has caused additional expenses in that John Kupresak from Iron Oak Construction asked me to rent a storage unit to empty the garage so that he could begin renovations. Even after six months of delays, he still asked me to keep my belongings in storage because he would start very soon.
The construction delay has caused personal inconvenience in that my wife and I have been without our walk-in closet for ten months since it was demolished during pre-construction preparations.
Since my experience with John Kupresak from Iron Oak Construction I have connected with some of his other victims as we try to come to terms with our situation.
