Health Spending Accounts (continued)

The three elements of a health spending account are contributions, claims and refunds.
  1. The employer makes monthly contributions to the employee’s health spending account and deducts the cost as a business expense.
  2. The employee is reimbursed for eligible health care expenses from the health spending account balance.
  3. Contributions not used by the end of the second calendar year are refunded to the employer.
