Survivor Benefits (Updated for January 2012)
The deceased must have normally contributed for either one-third of the years in the contributory period or 10 years.
The maximum monthly CPP survivor pension benefit is:
- $543.82 if under age 65,
- $592.00 if 65 or older,
- plus $224.62 for each dependent child.
Dependent children are:
- unmarried and under the age of 18 or
- attending school or university full-time and between the ages of 18 and 25.
Pensions are taxable income.
Death Benefit
A death benefit of 6 times the monthly retirement income to a maximum of $2,500 is paid to the spouse or estate of the deceased contributor.
