Nursing Care
Private Duty or Victorian Order of Nurses
no coverage in or out of hospital
Nursing Homes/Homes for the Aged
Benefits paid up to approved standard ward costs for an insured person who:
-
has resided in Ontario for one year or longer
-
requires continuous nursing service and regular medical supervision in a home
Eligible patients pay a daily charge with the plan paying the balance up to standard rates. Utilization fees apply.
Chronic Care
In-patient hospital services, except for prescribed drugs, biologicals and related preparations, when admitted to a chronic care unit of a hospital or an approved nursing home on the order of a physician.
Utilization fees apply for insured persons 18 years of age or older after the first 60 days care. However, social assistance recipients and residents certain levels of taxable income are not subject to any utilization fees.
Home Care
Eligibility for coverage:

physician certifies necessity
-
needs cannot be met on an out-patient basis
-
available near patient's residence
-
results show progress toward rehabilitation
The following services are covered on a visitation basis:
-
nurse, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, social worker, nutritionist, or a homemaker for up to eighty hours per disability
-
provision for dressings and medical supplies, diagnostic and laboratory services, hospital and sick-room equipment
-
transportation to and from home to a hospital, health facility, or attending physician's office
-
use of respiratory equipment whenever a nurse or therapist is present
