Professional Services
Physicians
- opted-in doctors and opted-out doctors are paid according
to an approved schedule of fees
- non-participating doctors are not reimbursed by the provincial
plan
- all services rendered by general practitioners or specialists
that are medically required
- visits
- consultations
- psychiatric
- diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- surgery
- anaesthesia
- X-rays
- obstetrical services
- patients are free to choose the physician of their choice
and physicians are free to choose their patients (they are not
obligated to treat any insured person).
Optometrists
The following services rendered by an optometrist for residents
under age 18 and over age 65:
- 1 complete eyesight examination and 1 colour-blindness test
per year
- examinations for contact lenses
Quebec has a Functional Aids program for the Visually Handicapped.
Any visually handicapped Quebec resident who is employed or enrolled
in a course of study is eligible for the program regardless of
age. Definition of a visually handicapped person are less than
6/21 vision or 180 degrees or 90 degrees meridian, for the cost
of buying, adjusting, replacing and repairing functional aids.
The cost of keeping a seeing-eye dog is not covered.
Chiropractors
No coverage.
Osteopaths
No coverage.
Chiropodists or Podiatrists
No coverage.
Physiotherapists
Use of physiotherapy facilities on an in-patient or out-patient
basis are covered.
