Coverage Exclusions
The following services are not covered by the provincial plan:
- services provided by any Federal or Provincial Acts including:
- Government Employees Compensation Act
- National Defence Act
- R.C.M.P. Act
- Pension Act
- Merchant Seamen Compensation Act
- Veterans Rehabilitation Act
- Aeronautics Act
- Civilian War Pensions and Allowances Act
- Worker's Compensation Act
- additional charges for private or semi- private hospital room
requested by the patient
- drugs taken home from the hospital
- long-distance telephone calls and telegrams, from hospital
- hospitalization not medically required
- private duty nursing
- plastic surgery not medically required
- ambulance (except persons age 65 and over and social aid recipients)
- check-ups
- examinations for insurance purposes
- injections of influenza vaccine
- prostheses and devices not implanted in the body
- psychoanalysis
- consultations by telecommunications or correspondence
- acupuncture
- visits only for reviewing a prescription
- group immunization or other group services
- examinations required for attending school, summer camp, joining
an association or organization
- examinations and services not related to curing or preventing
disease - i.e. for cosmetic purposes
- reports, testimonies, certificates for legal purposes; for
a passport, visa, insurance policy or job
- services rendered by a professional to his spouse or children
- adjustment of glasses or contact lenses
- the cost of buying, adjusting, replacing or repairing functional
aids for visually handicapped persons under 18 years of age.
The aids, which are defined by regulation, are lent to the visually
handicapped by institutions authorized by the Minister of Social
Affairs. Such aids are lent only to visually handicapped persons
who are unable to read or write or to get around unaided in an
unfamiliar environment and who have been trained to use them.
