Health Education (Benefit Tip © 2001)

I just finished documenting a long-term disability insurance claim for a 54-year-old office manager who suffered a massive stroke two months ago.

Two weeks before she was hospitalized, she had 3 early-warning signs of a stroke. She went to her doctor out of concern, but he misdiagnosed her condition.

She now looks and acts much different than the healthy and vibrant person that I knew for a decade.

The employee benefits plan will respond to her financial needs by paying for medication, rehabilitation and $400,000 of income continuation. But nothing can undo the physical damage that she has suffered and the emotional turmoil that she and her family are going through.

Please, introduce a wellness program to educate your staff. We all need to know how to stay healthy and when a second opinion can avert tragedy.
