H4 - Long Term Care Issues What is a Long Term Care Facility? Who goes to them and how? What is the future of Long Term Care? What are my parents' rights if she or he lives in a Nursing Home? Placing a parent in a Nursing Home is one of the most difficult decisions you can make, so planning, research and understanding are important.
R1 - What is a Caregiver? New Roles for Adult Children This seminar is intended to show you that you are not alone. You may be torn between worry for your parents and your children. People who have experienced crisis with their own parents will tell their stories. What are some of the ways you can plan, cope and use the resources available? What can you expect if you do become your parents' caregiver?
R2-Parents are People Too Your parents may be frustrated, scared and uncertain about what is happening in their lives. You may be finding it difficult to talk to your parents about important issues. You may be finding that your parents are resisting any help. You may be finding your parents are denying or delaying any decision making. What are some of the ways for you to understand and talk with your parents?
A1-It Could Happen to You- The Physiological Realities of Aging This seminar gives you some ideas about the kinds of illnesses that are affecting our aging population. What are some of the differences between healthy aging and disease? What are some myths about aging, and some of the more common illnesses and diseases that interfere with normal aging?
A2 - Of All the Things I've Lost, I miss my Mind the Most-A Review of Alzheimer's Disease and other Dementias This module provides information about the realities of Alzheimer's and other Dementias. How these diseases differ from normal aging. Changes in behavious associated with the diseases. It is an opportunity for people to learn about what an older person is experiencing. We also provide information on how to cope if someone you know has the disease.
L1 - Importance of Power of Attorney and Will Documents Why are these needed? What happens when one of these legal documents is invoked? Who is the best person to be a Power of Attorney or Executor of an Estate? What happens if a person does not have either of these documents?
L2 - It's Their Money What are some of the income options banks won't talk about? What is a reverse mortgage? What to do with the money from the sale of the family home? Does your parent have enough to live on?
L3 - Helping Parents to "Be Careful Out There" A review of the ways our parents can protect themselves against fraud and financial misfortune. Older adults are often taken advantage of, and it is good to know some ways to take care. What are some of the con games and sweet-talk crimes targeting seniors? How can you help your parent be less vulnerable to fraudulent behaviour?
