Vision Care

Spectacles (Glasses)
The oldest and safest method of correcting refraction is by placing a curved lens in front of the eye. Defined benefit (insurance) plans have a periodic benefit maximum (i.e. $200 every 24 months) to control costs. Highly tinted lenses are often excluded.

Contact Lenses
Contact lenses can be hard, soft or disposable. While contact lenses are less expensive than glasses, they do require more frequent replacement. Therefore, the benefit maximum of defined benefit (insurance) plans (i.e. $200 every 24 months) is problematic.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery reduces or eliminates dependency on corrective lenses by changing the shape of the patient’s eyes.
Since laser eye surgery became affordable and main-stream, benefit plan have included it as an eligible expense.
