Supplementary EI Benefits (SUB) - Income Replacement Benefit
A cost-effective method of providing short-term disability benefits is supplement the Employment Insurance Sickness Benefits (EI SB).
The employer must register with Human Resources Development Canada and receive approval for the program before any benefits payments can be made (otherwise the employee must declare the benefit as earnings which will reduce the EI SB).
The Supplementary EI Benefits can either specify the percentage by which or to which the EI benefits will be supplemented.
Once an EI claim has been approved, the employer may pay EI SB retroactive to the first day of disability.
